James McFadden states the difference between Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos & ex-Celtic man Moussa Dembele

Celtic are currently eight points clear of rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table.

Sky Sports pundit James McFadden has claimed that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been producing the goods ‘on his own’ whereas ex-Celtic hitman Moussa Dembele played with better players and a better side.

Last summer, Dembele left Parkhead to move to Ligue 1 side Lyron, with Morelos taking over the reigns as the best striker in Scotland’s top tier.

During his time in the Scottish Premiership, former Fulham man, Dembele scored 51 goals in 94 games for the club [transfermarkt] as he won the double-double and was part of Brendan Rodgers’ invincible side.

Speaking to SPFL Matters on Sky Sports Football (08/03/2019 at 6:10 pm), McFadden offered his thoughts on the difference between Dembele and Morelos.

“They are different players,” McFadden told SPFL Matters. “Dembele when he came up from Fulham, he hit the ground running, he was part of the invincible side, he won trophies. But he played in a very good side.

“Morelos, at the minute, certainly last season, didn’t play in a very good side yet he still scored goals. He carried Rangers. This season, they are much improved, but he is still scoring goals.

“Dembele was part of a very strong side. He wasn’t the only one scoring goals. Rangers have Morelos and the second top goalscorer is Tavernier on penalties. Morelos is doing a lot of it on his own… but he’s not playing with the quality of players Dembele played with at Celtic.”

Over the course of this season, Columbia international, Morelos has scored 28 goals and supplied 11 assists in his 42 matches for Steven Gerrard’s side [transfermarkt].

There isn’t much difference in the goalscoring records of both players in Scotland, with Dembele netting 51 in 94 matches and Morelos currently sitting on 46 in 85 games.

The big difference, of course, is the silverware the two players have won, with the former Bhoys man winning two Scottish Cups, two Scottish Premierships and three Scottish League cups.

Morelos is yet to lift any silverware during his time at Ibrox, but he has the chance to end that drought if he can guide his team to Scottish Cup glory at the end of the campaign.
