James McFadden shares that he was ‘always impressed’ with Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain when he played against him

Scott Bain started in between the sticks as Celtic recorded a win against Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Sky Sports pundit James McFadden has shared that he was ‘always impressed’ with Celtic ace Scott Bain when he played against him during his days as a footballer.

Former striker McFadden played in England’s and Scotland’s top-flight during his career as he labelled Bain as a ‘calm and composed’ individual on the ball.

The 27-year-old started between the sticks for his side as they beat Kilmarnock 1-0 at Rugby Park with captain Scott Brown netting a late winner.

Nonetheless, McFadden was full of praise for Celtic’s new man in goal, with Craig Gordon now seemingly Brendan Rodgers number two.

“The fact that he has surpassed Craig Gordon shows how well he has done,” McFadden told Sky Sports Football on 17/02/2019. “I played against him when I was at Dundee and I was always impressed with him.

“A lot of people say because of his size, you need big goalkeepers but he makes up for that in his agility. His shot-stopping is very good and he’s so comfortable with the ball at his feet. He is so calm and composed.”

The most impressive part of Bain’s game so far is that in the eight Scottish Premiership games he has played this season, he is yet to concede a goal, according to transfermarkt.

During his time as the Bhoys number one, he has showcased his typical shot-stopping skills, but most importantly a great ability and calmness to bring the ball out from the back.

Nonetheless, Celtic secured another three points in the league which puts them in commanding position to win their eighth title in the row at the end of the campaign.

At this moment in time, they are eight points clear of second-placed Rangers, who now face an almighty task in overturning that points tally as the season enters its final few months.
