Michael Beale looked unfazed as Scott Arfield lashed home a winner in the 97th minute for Rangers on Tuesday night – and James McFadden has explained to Open Goal why he was not celebrating the Ibrox side picking up a late victory.
Arfield, 34, had equalised for Rangers moments before in the 95th minute. It comes after Fashion Sakala’s opener was cancelled out by Duk, and then Leighton Clarkson. So, a second successive 3-2 win in the dying seconds at Pittodrie.
Two really tough games against Hibernian and Aberdeen, dealt with – six points. That is, despite Beale’s side boasting huge injury issues. Massive character, players playing through the pain. Beale will be absolutely delighted with his side.
But, he was completely blank as Arfield bounced in a left-footed effort from six yards out on Tuesday night. Unlike his players, who were celebrating like crazy – as were the travelling fans. McFadden explains why Beale did not celebrate.
“That might just be his style, but see if he does that and goes over the top, people are going to be saying – you can’t be happy with that [performance],” McFadden told Open Goal’s Right in the Coupon on Thursday.

So, is Beale expecting more? Probably not. In Thursday’s press conference, he said that James Tavernier, Glen Kamara, Alfredo Morelos and John Lundstram are all playing with injuries. Connor Goldson and Ben Davies are only just back.
Lundstram even had an injection to play. On the sidelines are Filip Helander, John Souttar, Antonio Colak, Ianis Hagi, Kemar Roofe, Ridvan Yilmaz and more – while Borna Barisic is yet to return from the World Cup. Huge numbers.
Beale can hardly be expectant and had Rangers drew with Aberdeen, it would have been a fair result. Away at Ross County on Friday, however, Beale has the chance to take nine points from nine, a start he would have dreamed of.
