Celtic suffered a damaging defeat against Livingston in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.

BBC Sport pundit James McFadden has claimed that Livingston’s centre-backs were ‘all over’ Odsonne Edouard as Celtic fell to a damaging 2-0 defeat on Sunday afternoon.

Neil Lennon’s side, who were reduced to 10 men in the first half following Ryan Christie’s high tackle on Scott Robinson, struggled to get going in the game.

Both goals from the home team came after the break, as Celtic could potentially lose top spot in the table this afternoon if their Old Firm rivals win their Premiership encounter.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, McFadden thinks that Edouard wasn’t even given a chance by Livingston, who stopped him from bringing his teammates into the game.

“Fair play to Livingston,” McFadden told BBC Sport. “Fair play to Gary Holt, he’s got everything spot on today. After the red card, his team stuck to what they are good at and stayed composed.

“They were really compact and really tough for Celtic to break down. When the ball came up to Edouard, the Livi centre-backs were all over him, they never gave him a chance to allow anybody else to get into the game and that’s a huge factor in how Celtic have been playing this season by getting the ball to Edouard and getting runners off him.”

Celtic manager Neil Lennon arrives prior to the Betfred Scottish League Cup quarter final match between Celtic and Partick Thistle at Celtic Park on September 25, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

It was an off-day for Celtic, but it is an off-day that could prove to be very costly down the line as their Sunday performance was the opposite of what they produced in Europe on Thursday.

Celtic won’t have the chance to get out on the pitch next week and put the wrongs of that Livingston defeat right because the international break will kick in.

But Lennon will be hoping for some sort of response from his players, who will be well aware that they were nowhere near their best on Sunday, when they return in a fortnights time.
