Everton midfielder James McCarthy was in impressive form despite the Republic of Ireland’s loss to France on Sunday.
The French ran out 2-1 winners in their Euro 2016 last 16 clash on Sunday in a highly entertaining affair. The Irish took an early lead in the game as Shane Long won a penalty that was converted by Robbie Brady.
However, the hosts rallied in the second half and two goals from Antoine Griezmann saw them into the last eight of the tournament and a potential meeting with England.
It was a disappointing end for Ireland and McCarthy, but he will be pleased with the performance that he showed in the game regardless.
As the stats provided by WhoScored show, he was impressive despite his side’s eventual loss, playing a key role in limiting France to just two goals.
He managed 33 touches in total, with all of those proving to be unsuccessful for the Everton man.
Defensively he was a rock, posting five tackles, the most of any Ireland player, as well as three interceptions, two clearances and two blocked shots.
His passing was also solid as he registered 19 in total and enjoyed an overall pass success rate of 84% in an all round solid display for him personally.
