According to Football.London, Arsenal could get James Maddison if they offer Calum Chambers and cash to Leicester City.

What’s the story?

Arsenal reportedly want to sign Maddison from Premier League rivals Leicester in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have already had a cash-plus-player offer for the 24-year-old attacking midfielder turned down.

However, Arsenal could be successful if they offer Chambers to Leicester along with cash for Maddison, according to Football.London.

Why?

Because Leicester wanted to sign the 26-year-old central defender back in the summer of 2017 and saw an offer of £20 million for the Englishman turned down, according to the report.

Manager Brendan Rodgers may now need to sign a centre-back due to the long-term injury suffered by Wesley Fofana.

Could a transfer happen?

Sky Sports have reported that Maddison – described as “incredible” and “fantastic” by Brentford manager Thomas Frank in The London Evening Standard in January 2021 – is open to joining Arsenal.

The Foxes need a defender, and Chambers – who can also operate as a right-back and cost Arsenal £16 million in transfer fee, according to BBC Sport – could indeed be a tempting option.

Of course, Arsenal will still have pay a lot of money as well, but this report in Football.London does make sense.
