Some Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to comments from Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers on reported Gunners target James Maddison.

What’s the story?

Sky Sports reported this week that Arsenal are interested in signing Maddison from Premier League rivals Leicester in the summer transfer window.

The England International attacking midfielder himself is claimed to be open to the idea of moving to Mikel Arteta’s side.

What Brendan Rodgers has said

Leicester manager Rodgers is aware of speculation on the future of Maddison.

However, the former Celtic and Liverpool boss expects the 24-year-old to stay at the King Power Stadium.

BBC Sport quotes Rodgers as saying: “I believe he will stay. There is clearly gossip and speculation at this time of year, but James has been working very hard in training and is an important member of our squad. Hopefully this year he can show the real top player that he is.”

What are Arsenal fans saying?

As you can see from the tweets below, Arsenal fans are now convinced that Maddison will join the Gunners.

Well, some of them anyway.

They think that Rodgers publicly addressing Maddison’s future and saying that he will stay means that he will not.

That’s what managers who are about to lose their players say, according to some Arsenal fans.

If Arsenal are keen on Maddison – described as “incredible” and “fantastic” by Brentford manager Thomas Frank in The London Evening Standard in January 2021 – and the player himself wants a transfer, then a move is very much possible.

Of course, Leicester are not going to sell Maddison on the cheap, which means that the Gunners will have to cough up a lot of money.
