According to The World Game in Australia, midfielder James Jeggo snubbed a move to Rangers before swapping Sturm Graz for Austria Wien.

Rangers are looking for major reinforcements this summer, and have already snapped up two new faces in Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield, landing the experienced duo on free transfers.

A host of players have been linked with the club since Steven Gerrard’s appointment as Rangers manager, and whilst many of those play for Liverpool, another name has been touted over the weekend.

The World Game in Australia report that Rangers wanted to land Australian midfielder James Jeggo on a free transfer from Sturm Graz, in a move which would have surprised many.

However, Jeggo has decided to join rivals Austria Wien instead, heading as a free agent having chosen not to extend his contract with Sturm Graz whilst snubbing Rangers’ offer to stay in Austria.

The report carries quotes from Jeggo on his move to Austria Wien, citing their new stadium and facilities as being key to his decision, even though Sturm Graz fans may not be happy to see him join a rival.

Jeggo, 26, may not be a familiar name for many Rangers fans, but he has been a regular in Austria since his 2016 move from Adelaide United, attracting interest from a host of English clubs with some fine performances.

Jeggo hasn’t yet been capped by Australia though, surprisingly, and whilst he would have added depth to the Rangers midfield, many Gers fans will feel that Gerrard needs bigger names than Jeggo to chase down Celtic during his time at Ibrox.
