Brendan Rodgers was appointed the Celtic manager in the summer of 2016.

Celtic winger James Forrest has revealed to The Daily Record the discussion he had with Brendan Rodgers at the start of the season.

Rodgers was appointed the Celtic manager in the summer of 2016 following the departure of Ronny Deila at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

Forrest, who is 25 years of age and has been on the books of the Hoops his entire professional career so far this season, has shared what he spoke to his manager at the start of the season.

Celtic's James Forrest

“When you are at a club like Celtic there are players in every position who want to play – there’s always going to be good players in your position,” Forrest told The Daily Record.

“You just need to keep working hard and try to stay in the team for as long as you can. I had a chat with the gaffer right at the start in pre-season.

“He said he wanted me to stay and I told him I always wanted to stay. It was good to get that out of the way so I could focus on playing football.”

Forrest has been playing well for Celtic this season and has established himself as a key player in the current team.

The 25-year-old has a bright future ahead of him, and working with Rodgers is only going to make him better.

Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 58 points from 20 matches.

The Hoops are 19 points clear of second-placed and Old Firm rivals Rangers and have a game in hand.

The Bhoys will return to action on January 22 when they take on Albion Rovers away from home at the Exsel Group Stadium in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.
