26.09.2015. Glasgow, Scotland. Scottish Premier League. Celtic versus Hearts. Callum Paterson, Sam Nicholson and James Forrest battle for the ball . The match ended in a 0-0 draw.

James Forrest has revealed to Celtic’s official website that Neil Lennon told him to shoot from long-range before the cup final last weekend.

Celtic won 3-0 against Aberdeen at Hampden Park last Sunday, and it was Forrest who set the Bhoys on their way to victory.

The rapid wide-man cut inside before curling a beautiful shot into the top corner to put Celtic in front.

And Forrest said: “The manager said before the game that he could remember a game at home against Hearts where I got the ball and scored with my left foot. He reminded me of that conversation after the game.

“I don’t normally shoot from outside the box but sometimes if it’s sitting well, then the manager will encourage you to shoot because you never know what can happen.”

Celtic went on to add two further goals against Aberdeen through Odsonne Edouard and Tom Rogic, but it was Forrest’s which was the pick of the bunch.

The Bhoys will now face Hearts in the final, as they look to lift their third treble in a row.

The result could have major implications for Lennon, who is still waiting to find out whether he will be with Celtic next season or not.

Celtic are yet to announce who their next permanent manager will be, but if the Bhoys do lift all three pieces of silverware again, then Lennon’s case will be a strong one.
