James Collins has been sidelined since September 16 after injuring his ankle for West Ham.
West Ham United defender James Collins has told fans on Instagram that he is close to returning to first-team football as he is set to feature for the club’s Under-23 side on Tuesday night.
Collins, 34, has been sidelined since September 16 after suffering an ankle injury against West Brom at the Hawthorns during a 0-0 draw with the Midlands club.
West Ham boss Moyes ruled Collins out from featuring for West Ham’s senior side against Everton on Wednesday night, with Football London quoting the ex-Toffees gaffer as saying: “It’s the same [situation as Hernandez, who is also injured] with James Collins and Michail Antonio.”
However, Collins’ comeback is almost complete as he told fans on Instagram that he will be appearing for the club’s second string, as they face Wycombe Wanderers in the Checkatrade Trophy at Adams Park.
Collins has made three Premier League appearances including the clash against West Brom and had impressed during those outings, picking up clean sheets against the Baggies and Huddersfield.
The retired Wales international will be desperate to get back to playing football as he looks to prove to the east Londoners that he deserves a contract extension, with his current deal set to expire in June.
Collins could be a part of Moyes’ senior squad as the Hammers face Manchester City on Sunday in the Premier League.
