West Ham United attacker Manuel Lanzini has suffered the heartache of picking up an injury just a week before the start of this summer’s World Cup in Russia – and James Collins has sent sent a heartfelt message to the playmaker on Instagram.

The 25-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament during a training session with Argentina on Friday morning and is now likely to miss a big chunk of West Ham’s 2018-19 campaign.

The playmaker has now withdrawn from Argentina’s 23-man squad, which saw him link-up with the likes of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain and Manchester City goal machine Sergio Aguero.

Collins, who was released by the Hammers last month after failing to earn an extension on his Hammers contract, posted his sympathies to former teammate Lanzini on Instagram.

Lanzini gained a place in Argentina’s World Cup squad despite a frustrating season for the ex-River Plate star, with a number of niggling injuries limiting the four-cap to just 27 Premier League appearances.

However, he still managed to score five goals and lay on another seven assists in England’s top tier. But he must now prepare for a long spell on the sidelines that will impact both Argentina and the Hammers.
