The experienced defender was closing in on a first-team return for West Ham.

West Ham United have been dealt a blow after defender James Collins suffered an injury on his return to action for the club’s U23 side last night.
Collins hasn’t featured for the first-team since suffering an ankle injury in September and was named in the starting line-up for the Checkatrade Trophy game away to Wycombe Wanderers.
However, the night certainly didn’t go to plan for West Ham as they lost 2-0 and Collins was forced off with an injury after just 22 minutes, as reported by Football.London.

Collins will now be assessed to determine the severity of his injury and West Ham supporters will hope that this is just a minor setback for the experienced Welshman.
West Ham manager David Moyes will be eager to have Collins back to full fitness soon, with the 34-year-old capable of helping to shore up a defence that has been vulnerable this season.

In addition to being vastly experienced, Collins has excellent leadership qualities and his first-team return, when it eventually does happen, will be a major boost for the club.
West Ham, who are in 18th place in the Premier League, face another struggling side, Everton, away tonight.
