In a heart-wrenching post on Instagram, James Collins has confirmed that he will not be getting a new West Ham contract and will be leaving the club at the end of next month.

Collins’ future has received a lot of attention in recent weeks. His inability to hide his emotion on the final day of the season certainly hinted that his second spell with the Hammers was coming to an end, but there have been conflicting reports on his future since the win over Everton.

BBC Sport recently reported that Collins had been told by David Sullivan and then informed via email that he would not be getting a new contract with the Irons, but the new manager – Manuel Pellegrini had not been appointed by this stage – would make a final decision.

And it appears that Pellegrini has decided to let the centre-back leave the London Stadium. The 34-year-old took to social media to express his anguish at the decision.

It is certainly a sad day given how highly the supporters thought of the former Wales international. And despite reaching the twilight of his career, the centre-back still managed to make 15 appearances for the club in all competitions this past season.

West Ham fans will certainly be hoping that the decision to let Collins leave was made with the intention of getting some exciting signings done over the coming months that could help the club move up a level next season.
