The West Ham United and Manchester City defenders were in impressive form this weekend.
The 2-2 draw between West Ham United and Manchester City on Saturday evening was one in which the offensive players were busy throughout.
Dimitri Payet was on his best form for the Hammers as he tormented the City defence throughout, while Sergio Aguero was at his predatory best for the visitors.
That meant it was a busy day for both defences, with their efforts keeping the score from being higher than it was.
And it seems that two defenders in particular were on top of their game, with James Collins and Martin Demichelis posting impressive stats in the game.
In fact, both were so impressive they managed to post higher numbers in two key statistical areas than anyone else this past weekend.
| Position | Match | Effective Clearance | Effective Head Clearance | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| James Collins | DF | West Ham vs Man City | 11 | 9 |
| Martín Demichelis | DF | West Ham vs Man City | 11 | 9 |
| Ashley Williams | DF | Everton vs Swansea | 11 | 7 |
The duo managed to post the most effective clearances of any players in the Premier League this weekend, alongside Swansea’s Ashley Williams, with a tally of 11.
The Swans man couldn’t keep up with them in another defensive department though, as the duo also posted a league high of nine effective headed clearances each, two more than Williams managed in the win over Everton.
An impressive display from both defenders then, who will be hoping that next weekend then can post similar numbers and keep a clean sheet in the process.
