Steve Bruce boasts a star-studded squad at Aston Villa as they eye promotion to the Premier League.

James Chester of Aston Villa looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Aston Villa at iPro Stadium on December 16, 2017 in Derby, England.

In-form Aston Villa defender James Chester has told the club’s website that he believes Jack Grealish is the most talented player at the club right now.

Grealish, 22, finally returned from injury to star in Steve Bruce’s side at the start of November, after suffering a kidney injury during pre-season following a nasty collision with Watford midfielder Tom Cleverley.

Now, Villa’s number 10 has starred in his 10 Championship appearances, starting the last five games and proving crucial last time out in the 5-0 win over Bristol City – striking the post before providing an assist for Robert Snodgrass’ second.

Wales international Chester, who has worn the captain’s armband in the absence of John Terry who is sidelined with a broken foot, claimed that Grealish is the best because he can create problems from anywhere on the pitch.

“Jack Grealish, in my opinion, is the most talented player we’ve got at this club,” Chester said. “He was unfortunate to pick up the injury he did in pre-season, but it’s great to see him back.

“He gives us another string to our bow, and has proved that in the last couple of games. Jack is the best player we have when it comes to getting in between the lines of the defence. He can pick the ball up and create problems from anywhere on the pitch.

“Having him back has given us something extra.”

Chester’s claim is a large one due to the fact that Villa boast a number of Championship stars including top scorer Albert Adomah, £15million signing Jonathan Kodjia and former England and Chelsea captain Terry.

Grealish may be rested as Bruce’s Midlands giants go up against impressive League One outfit Peterborough on Saturday in the third round of the FA Cup at Villa Park, as Villa travel to Nottingham Forest on January 13.

The wins against Middlesbrough and Bristol City have seen Villa rise into sixth place after dropping out of the Championship’s top six following a winless run of five games. With Grealish back firing, they will be confident they can remain in the reckoning until May.
