The Villa star is looking forward a huge away allocation at White Hart Lane.
Aston Villa defender James Chester has revealed to AVTV that his first thought after the club drew Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup third round was the number of fans who will make the journey to White Hart Lane.
Villa will travel to the Premier League side in early January in their first game in the competition since their relegation from the top flight last season.
It represents an extremely tough draw for the Championship side, and it is unlikely that many fans will head to White Hart Lane expecting – or even hoping for – a win.
However, Villa’s away support has consistently been one of the best in England in recent years, and that has continued this year despite their relegation.
Away clubs are entitled to a larger allocation in cup competitions, and it is likely that the Birmingham side will sell out several thousand tickets for the trip to North London.
Chester admitted that, when he heard about the draw, his first thought was not facing stars such as Harry Kane, but the noise that will be generated for 90 minutes from the enlarged away section on the day.
The centre-back told AVTV: “It’s an exciting tie. My immediate thoughts were the extra tickets that you get for away games in the FA Cup.
“We’ve had fantastic support in the league so far so yeah, my initial thoughts were what a great atmosphere it will be. It will be a tough game but it’s a really good game to look forward to.”
Aside from their run to the final in 2014-15, Villa have not had too much luck in the FA Cup in recent years. In fact, in the 16 years since they reached the final in 2000, they have only progressed beyond round four on five occasions.
It will be a huge task to even reach that stage this time around, but one thing is four certain – they will have a large vocal support urging them on.
