James Chester delivers his verdict on Aston Villa’s new owner’s decision to keep Steve Bruce

Aston Villa defender has backed manager Steve Bruce, who is set to stay on at Villa Park this season.

James Chester has told Sky Sports that it is ‘wonderful’ that Aston Villa’s new owners have decided to keep Steve Bruce as manager.

Chester, who has been linked with a £10 million move to Stoke City this summer in the Daily Mail, now looks set to stay at Villa, following a takeover.

Current boss Bruce will also be remaining at Villa Park, after speculation rose over his future.

And Chester feels that Villa’s new owners have made a good decision by sticking by Bruce, despite their failure to earn promotion last season.

He said: “It’s wonderful that the manager is staying.

“There’s not many people better qualified than him to be in charge of such a big club as Aston Villa.”

Chester may have given Bruce his support, but there is no doubting the experienced boss is under pressure.

Sections of Villa supporters have been left frustrated by his failure to deliver promotion last term, when they lost in the play off final to Fulham.

Villa were plunged into financial jeopardy earlier this summer, but their new owners seem to have partially solved their problems.

Villa begin their campaign with a match against Hull City on Monday evening.
