Leeds United won against Aston Villa in the Championship at the weekend.

Aston Villa defender James Chester has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that Leeds United can get promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season.

Leeds are one of the biggest clubs of England, but the Whites have not featured in the Premier League since 2004.

Over the years, the West Yorkshire outfit have become also-rans in the Championship, but things could change this campaign.

Under head coach Garry Monk, Leeds are going strong in the Championship and have established themselves as genuine contenders for the playoffs.

The Whites are fourth in the Championship table at the moment with 32 points from 19 matches.

On Saturday evening, Leeds got the better of Villa 2-0 at Elland Road in the league.

Villa defender Chester has praised the Whites and has backed them to get promoted to the Premier League.

“This is the best Leeds side they’ve had for a while and the most realistic chance they’ve had of gaining promotion from this division,” the 27-year-old told The Yorkshire Evening Post. “A side as good as Leeds were always going to create chances and they took them.

“For 60 or 70 minutes we were probably the best team. Had we taken our chances we would have won the game.”

Leeds will return to action on Friday evening when they take on Brighton & Hove Albion away from home at the American Express Community Stadium in the Championship.

Brighton are second in the league table at the moment with 39 points from 19 matches.
