The defensive duo joined Leeds United this past summer.

Leeds' Kyle Bartley

James Beattie has joked to LUTV that Kyle Bartley and Leeds United team-mate Luke Ayling can be difficult to deal with.

Bartley, 25, joined Leeds on a season-long loan from Swansea City in the summer, and he has won rave reviews for his defensive performances alongside Pontus Jansson so far.

Meanwhile, right-back Ayling, the same age as the centre-back, joined the Whites from Bristol City on a permanent deal in a move which saw him reunited with his former Arsenal team-mate.

The pair came through the ranks together in North London, winning a League-and-Cup double with the Gunners’ youth side in 2009 alongside Jack Wilshere.

And the duo, it seems, have not lost their sense of fun as first-team coach Beattie claims that they are both responsible for some of the pranks that go on behind the scenes at Leeds.

Asked by LUTV who the funniest in the squad is, Beattie said: “There’s a few who are central to any pranks that go on; Barts is one of them, and Luke Ayling another because they’re best mates. They can be difficult it, but there’s some great characters.”

Indeed, they have both enjoyed fine starts to life at Elland Road, but Sunday throws up perhaps their biggest test of the season as top-of-the-table Newcastle United visit Yorkshire.

Garry Monk’s side sit sixth in the Championship, after beating Norwich 3-2 last time out, and another victory this weekend would make it increasingly tough to rule out United’s promotion hopes.
