The Birmingham City coach played alongside Sharp in the Sheffield United striker’s second Bramall Lane spell.

The Birmingham City coach, James Beattie, is among those reacting to Billy Sharp’s record-breaking goal for Sheffield United against Wigan Athletic on New Year’s Day.
Sharp displaced his one-time Southampton strike partner, Rickie Lambert, at the top of the charts for goals scored in England’s top four divisions this century, after registering strike number 220 at the DW Stadium.
And Beattie, the former Sheffield United striker and another of the Blades captain’s former colleagues, wrote on Twitter yesterday.
Sharp and Beattie arrived at Sheffield United in the same transfer window 11-and-a-half years ago, although it was not until the former’s return for a third spell at Bramall Lane that he was able to replicate the Birmingham man’s initial success.
Beattie scored 34 goals in 65 games during his maiden Blades stint, but failed to find the net in 19 attempts after his 2012 move back to the Steel City.

All but 13 of Sharp’s 95 goals for Sheffield United have arrived in his last 159 appearances, since 2015.
