Liverpool have high hopes for midfielder James Balagizi – a player they managed to land from rivals Manchester City.

Balagizi joined Liverpool at just 11 years old, having decided to leave the City academy for a move to Anfield.

The Guardian noted in October that City still feel frustration at losing Balagizi, having been one of their most promising talents in his age range.

Now 17, Balagizi has picked up four assists in 12 Under-18 Premier League games this season, continuing to show his potential.

On Monday, Balagizi featured for England’s Under-18’s against Wales, coming on as a half-time substitute and even notching an assist.

What’s interesting is that Balagizi’s assist was for a goal by Aston Villa’s Carney Chukwuemeka, a player Liverpool want to sign.

The Times claim that Liverpool are seeking to raid Villa for Chukwuemeka, seeing the 17-year-old as a real talent for the future.

Balagizi setting up Chukwuemeka for his goal shows a burgeoning connection – and a possible hint towards the future for Liverpool if they get their way.
