The Tottenham Hotspur boss has been linked with the Manchester United job recently.

Jamie Redknapp highlighted three reasons why Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will still be Manchester United’s number one managerial target, when writing his regular column for the Daily Mail.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over as interim boss at Old Trafford in December, and United’s excellent run of form since then has made the Norwegian favourite for the job, ahead of Spurs manager Pochettino.

The Tottenham chief is still arguably one of the top five managers in world football, however, and he will surely still be an attractive option for the Red Devils.

And despite talk that Solskjaer is now the front runner for the United job, Redknapp explained how Pochettino is still the strongest candidate for the Old Trafford hot-seat, when writing his regular column for the Daily Mail:

“Matters have been complicated by the return of Zinedine Zidane to Real Madrid. Now that door has closed to Mauricio Pochettino, United are in pole position to try to tempt him away from Tottenham. He has an outstanding track record when it comes to improving players and has established Spurs as a top-four side, despite having his hands tied in the last two transfer windows. Regardless of Tottenham’s recent poor run of form, he remains the strongest candidate.”

Much will depend on whether Solskjaer can guide United to Champions League football this season, and whether or not he can achieve glory in Europe.

Pochettino is obviously a top class manager, and Tottenham fans might just be hoping that the Red Devils finish the season strongly, so that the Norwegian is given the manager’s job on a permanent basis.
