Jamal Blackman’s loan spell at Leeds United ended prematurely after he broke his leg in an under-23 game.

Jamal Blackman #46 of Chelsea warms up before the match against the New York Red Bulls during the International Champions Cup at Red Bull Arena on July 22, 2015 in Harrison, New Jersey.

Jamal Blackman has responded on Twitter after his former Leeds teammates paid tribute to the goalkeeper during the Whites’ win against Bristol City at Elland Road on Saturday.

Blackman has endured an incredibly difficult time. The stopper was signed on loan in the summer but spent his entire spell with Leeds as second-choice behind Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

And his loan has already come to an end after he sustained a broken leg during an under-23 game. What made the injury slightly more tragic was that Blackman was about to get his chance in the first-team, with Marcelo Bielsa confirming this week, in comments reported by Leeds Live, that he was ready to make a change between the sticks.

The setback may have ended Blackman’s Leeds spell, but the Whites squad made it clear that they had not forgotten about their now-former teammate as they sent their own message to the goalkeeper in their clash with the Robins.

Leeds claimed an important 2-0 win with Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez scoring in the second-half. And they marked the victory by holding up a goalkeeper jersey with a message to Blackman printed on the back.

And while Blackman did not respond with a long message, his gratitude towards the gesture was clear to see and will hopefully help the summer signing as he begins his recovery.
