Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has warned the Championship there is more to come from them this season, speaking to the Chronicle.

The Magpies continued their winning form on Saturday as they secured a win over Brighton & Hove Albion, who were managed by former Newcastle boss Chris Hughton.

The victory was their third on the bounce as they have come back from losing their first two games of the season.

The result took Newcastle up to fourth in the table and just four points behind surprise leaders Huddersfield Town.

It was an impressive performance from Rafa Benitez’s side, but Lascelles has warned that there is even more to come from them.

“We are only going to get better,” he told the Chronicle. “We were missing two of our best players in Mitro (Aleksandar Mitrovic) and Dwight Gayle so if we are beating Brighton like that, we know there is more to offer.”

While Lascelles says there is more to come from them moving forward, Benitez will certainly be pleased by what he has seen so far.

Those first two defeats would have been worrying, but his side has bounced back well and now looks like a team capable of challenging at the top half of the table.

Of course he will still want to see more from them regardless and will be encouraged by Lascelles’ latest comments.
