Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has been linked with a move to Chelsea.
Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has told The Chronicle that he is only interested in helping the Magpies win the Championship amid interest from Chelsea.
The 22-year-old was linked with an £18 million move to Antonio Conte’s club in The Sun last week, but Lascelles insists that he is not thinking about anything other than Newcastle.

“I saw a little bit. I really don’t know where that has come from. I can’t pay any interest in it,” Lascelles told The Chronicle when asked about the rumours linking him to Chelsea.
“I am a Newcastle United player and my job is to stay here and hopefully be picking up a trophy at the end of the season. That is a long way away and that is my main objective and I won’t be thinking about anything else.”
The words of their captain will be music to the ears of Newcastle supporters, who may have been worried that the club might cash in on their young star and sell him off for a huge profit like they have done with many players in the past.

Lascelles is a crucial part of Rafael Benitez’s side, and the Spaniard has a lot of faith in his centre back, naming him his captain at such a young age.
The goal at Newcastle this season has to be promotion, and the fact that Lascelles only has eyes on lifting a trophy at the end of the season shows how focused he is on the club and completing their objectives.
Many players have used the Tyneside club as a stepping stone in the past, seeing it as a place to help them get a bigger move, but the times are changing at Newcastle, with only players who want to play for the club being allowed to don the black and white shirt.
