Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles has told The Sun that he thinks the club should be aiming for a top ten finish this season.
The Magpies won promotion back to the Premier League by winning the Championship title on the final day of last season, pipping Brighton to the crown.
Newcastle are now hoping re-establish themselves in the Premier League, with manager Rafael Benitez hoping to make the Magpies a force in the top flight again.
Benitez has brought in the likes of Florian Lejeune, Javier Manquillo, Mikel Merino and Jacob Murphy to boost his squad, with Christian Atsu also penning a permanent deal having impressed last season.
Benitez has been left frustrated by the lack of funds available at his disposal, but expectation levels remain high at St. James’ Park as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.
In their last six Premier League campaigns, Newcastle finished in the top ten just twice – but defender Jamaal Lascelles believes that should be the target this time around.
Lascelles has told The Sun that Newcastle haven’t collectively spoken about their target for the season, but he feels that a top ten finish should be Newcastle’s aim for the season, predicting that the Magpies will do well.
“We haven’t really spoken about our aim, but personally I think it should be to try and get in the top ten,” said Lascelles. “I don’t see why we can’t. I think we will do well,” he added.
