Newcastle United are currently top of the Championship.

Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has put the pressure on his teammates by telling the Chronicle they should be winning every game with the players they have got.

The Magpies have made a strong start to life in the Championship, currently topping the table, three points ahead of Brighton and Hove Albion.

After a shaky start in which they lost their first two games, they have quickly found their feet, winning 11 of their 15 games so far.

It has confirmed many people’s expectations that they would be one of the favourites for promotion to the Premier League.

They will need to maintain their form for the remainder of the season and Lascelles believes they should be winning all of their games but warns they must stay focused.

“With the players, we have got we should really beat every team. (But) at the end of the day we have to work hard,” he told the Chronicle.

“Fans will get excited with us winning and think we are going to storm it. But we have to play 90 minutes and the Championship is a tough physical league.”

“It is really competitive. It is who turns up on the day. Stay focused, work hard and our talent will take us through.”

It will be interesting to see how many points that Newcastle United end up finishing with this season.

They have so far picked up 34 points from their 15 games, which means they are averaging 2.2 points per game.

If they maintain that over the remaining 31 games they have this season that would see them finish on 102 points in total, which would see them equalling the total of 102 they managed as champions in 2009/10 and just four short of the record haul of 106 set by Reading in 2005/06.
