Lascelles was in Newcastle’s side last time they were relegated, and earned credit for hammering his teammates in the dressing room, late on during that campaign.
The centre-back has now repeated the trick, and insists that he had harsh words with his teammates earlier this time around, as he didn’t want to leave it too late again.
“I would not say it was calm. No. There were a few home truths said,” Lascelles said. “I don’t want to leave it too late for things like that to be said.
“The reality is we are not in a great position and sometimes things need to be said that players do not want to hear. Hopefully, it will get a reaction.”
Newcastle are now under severe pressure to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible.
The Magpies are just one point above the drop zone, as things stand, with concerns rising for Rafael Benitez’s side.
Newcastle are next in action against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, in what is sure to be another tough test.
