Newcastle United suffered a disappointing defeat at home with Jamaal Lascelles not featuring in the game.

Jamaal Lascelles has taken to Twitter to express his disappointment after Newcastle were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea on Sunday, and insist that he missed the game due to an ankle injury.
The headlines in the buildup to the game at St James’ Park were stolen by the news that Lascelles and Jonjo Shelvey were missing from the Magpies’ matchday squad, with the club suggesting that the pair were injured.
It was an agonising result for Newcastle, with Joselu’s equaliser in the latter stages seemingly giving the home side a fantastic chance of taking a share of the points. However, DeAndre Yedlin would deflect Marcos Alonso’s shot into his own goal for Chelsea’s winner soon after.

And after the game, Lascelles attempted to clear up the speculation with his post on social media which alluded to an ankle problem for the Magpies skipper…
It would certainly be a blow if Lascelles misses any further games – regardless of the reason. Newcastle’s centre-backs performed well against the Blues, but the Englishman’s leadership qualities have made him largely indispensable over the last couple of years, and having him back as quickly as possible will be a major boost for the club.
