Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles thanked fans after his side beat Aston Villa 2-0 to return to the top of the Championship table.
Aston Villa are in free fall, making it nine league games without a win, although they always faced an uphill task to get anything out of last night’s match.
Newcastle defender Lascelles used Twitter to talk up the win, and praise opponents Aston Villa too for making the game a contest.
Newcastle scored a goal in each half with Yoan Gouffran netting, before Henri Lansbury netted an own goal, much to the delight of the home crowd.
Both teams were relegated from the Premier League last season but are moving in different directions this campaign.

Newcastle look set to bounce straight back up, while Aston Villa may soon find themselves in a relegation battle if they are not careful.
They are in 17th, just six points above the drop zone, and 22 points away from the play-offs. Newcastle are 33 points ahead of them after last night.
