Newcastle United pair Jonjo Shelvey and Jamaal Lascelles have both been tipped as potential England players.
Shelvey was recently excluded from the England squad, as his wait for his first international cap since 2015 continued.
The central midfielder has been in excellent form for Newcastle of late, but seems to be struggling to break into Gareth Southgate’s plans.
And Lascelles believes that England are missing a trick by not calling up Shelvey.
The Newcastle captain said: “I train with Jonjo every single day and technically he is so talented.
“I’m not dissing anyone who is in the England team, they are there for a reason and they are very good players, but Jonjo can quite comfortably compete at that level.
“Technically he’s right up there with the best Premier League midfielders. We’ve [England] got hard-working midfielders, disciplined midfielders, but Jonjo offers something a little bit different. He definitely does for us. He’s one of our best players.”
Lascelles has also been talked about as a potential candidate to go to the World Cup with England, but he was also overlooked, much to the frustration of Newcastle supporters.
Lascelles and Shelvey have, instead, been training with Newcastle in Spain over the international break.
The Magpies pair will have key roles to play over the remainder of the season, as Rafael Benitez’s side look to avoid relegation.
Newcastle are currently in 13th place in the Premier League table, four points above the relegation zone.
