Newcastle have lived up to their billing as promotion favourites so far this season, and they already look near-certainties to be playing Premier League football next year.
The Magpies have been in wonderful form, and they have blown away all before them in recent weeks.
Newcastle were made to work hard for the three points against Cardiff, but they got over the line by showing their grit.
Newcastle were thoroughly dominant for the first hour of the match, with Christian Atsu and Yoan Goaffran putting them into a commanding 2-0 lead.
However, when Peter Whittingham pulled one back for Cardiff it set up a nervy finish, and Newcastle had to survive late penalty claims to collect the three points.
The victory has further consolidated Newcastle’s place at the top of the Championship table, and they have already built up an eight point advantage over third placed Huddersfield Town.
Newcastle’s players certainly seemed delighted with their progress, with Lascelles being joined with Isaac Hayden and Christian Atsu by expressing their delight in their latest victory.
