The Newcastle United skipper has been keeping track of Leeds United’s form.
Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles has admitted to the club’s official TV channel that he has been keeping a close eye on Leeds United this season.
The Magpies make the trip to a sold-out Elland Road on Sunday for what could be a fascinating Championship clash.
Top-of-the-table Newcastle ride the crest of a wave into the trip to Yorkshire after winning their last seven league matches, while Leeds are also bang in form, winning three of their last four as Garry Monk’s side sit in the fourth and final playoff position at the moment.
The Whites are arguably the most improved side in the Championship after winning one of their first six matches in England’s second tier, and though Lascelles says he has kept an eye on their progress, the Geordies’ skipper is adamant that he and his team-mates can’t overly focus on other teams.
“Leeds are a good team, they have always been up there in the Championship but like I’ve said before, repeating myself, we don’t really look at other teams too much,” he told NUTV.
“I’ve kept an eye on them and they are doing pretty well. It is going to be an interesting game but every game in the Championship is tough.”
Sunday’s encounter won’t determine whether Leeds will win promotion or not, but beating the best in the Championship so far would offer give rise to increasing suggestions that it might just be United’s year.
Whites owner Massimo Cellino has already gone through seven different managers, but none have united the fanbase as much as Monk and Elland Road, at the moment, might be one of the toughest away days in English football, relatively speaking.
