Columnist Jake Lane gives his thoughts on the hot topics in football:
SCRAP THE HANDSHAKE:
In my opinion, this should never have been cancelled before the game between QPR and Chelsea on Saturday – this exception of the formality goes against everything the Premier League claims to stand for.
I do however, believe that this whole charade should be scrapped anyway as the players come out all fired up and raring to go after hearing the last words of the team talk and the last thing they then need is to have to line up and shake the hands of their opponents.
The players can use their time in the tunnel to say their hellos to the players they know, plus the captains do the customary hand shake before the game at the centre circle on behalf of their teams.
Shaking hands at the end of the game is enough, I mean, which other sports do it before battle!
HARRY REDKNAPP:
Although I appreciate if what ‘Arry’s said to have been up to is wrong; I ask, should the FA and our media be doing more not tarnish the name of the heir to the England Manager’s throne?
Especially when Redknapp is more than likely not the only manager who has got caught up in this kind of mess.
The media should NOT be making any more of this than needs to be; Harry Redknapp is our number one target for the England job and we must not ruin it before it’s even begun, like we did for a certain Mr Scolari.
INTRODUCE A SWAP SHOP:
Big clubs with big money are preventing the smaller clubs with less money from acquiring the players they need, purely because of being able to afford salaries.
For example, a club like Stoke -or even Arsenal- may need a striker and identify a suitable target but simply can not afford to pay for their services.
This is why Adebayor will go back to Man City in May and have to wait for another big club who can afford his wages, to come in for him.
Big rival clubs will not do business with one another unless they financially have to which is why we could see more and more loan deals happening.
Football is a matter of opinion and I believe that the transfers windows should be more about trading; “we like your player, you like ours” – hence, swap deals.
