Jake Paul has attempted to walk back fresh criticism aimed at Bad Bunny after a late-night post on X triggered renewed backlash.
The YouTuber and boxer blamed his account for the controversy, but his follow-up explanation only added fuel to an already tense conversation.
Jake Paul distances himself from Bad Bunny backlash

Addressing the situation on X, Jake Paul claimed confusion over how the original message appeared on his account.
“Guys, I love Bad Bunny idk what happened on my Twitter last night? W__.”
The post was interpreted by many as an attempt to shift responsibility rather than offer a clear apology. Given the timing and the broader discourse surrounding Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl appearance, fans were sceptical about the explanation.
Paul has previously been vocal on cultural and political topics, which made the suggestion that his account acted independently difficult for some to accept.
The message did little to calm the situation, instead setting the stage for further clarification as scrutiny continued to build.
Jake Paul explains what he meant by calling Bad Bunny ‘fake’
Paul expanded on his position in a second post shared via another X post, insisting that his comments had been misunderstood.
“The problem with my tweet is the word fake being misinterpreted. He’s not a fake citizen obviously bc he’s Puerto Rican, and I love Puerto Rico and all Americans who support the country.
More so, Bunny is fake bc of his values and criticism of our great country,” Paul added.
The clarification attempted to separate nationality from ideology, but it landed awkwardly. By doubling down on the label while reframing its meaning, Paul reopened the debate rather than closing it.
Critics argued that the explanation contradicted the initial claim that something went wrong with his account. Others viewed it as a calculated shift, moving from denial to justification once backlash became unavoidable.
Whether Paul intended to provoke or simply misjudged his wording, the episode reinforced how little margin for error exists during moments of heightened cultural sensitivity.
For now, the blame placed on his X account has done little to defuse the situation. Instead, it has left fans debating intent, accountability, and whether the follow-up explanation made matters worse.
