The Southampton midfielder produced an encouraging performance at U23 level.

Jake Hesketh may have found it difficult to break into the Southampton first-team, but the midfielder provided a reminder of the quality that he possesses by producing an impressive performance in the 2-0 victory away to Stoke City at U23 level last night.
Hesketh opened the scoring in the 50th minute, with Callum Slattery also on the scoresheet, as reported by the Premier League’s official website.
Slattery missed a penalty but Southampton were still able to prevail at St George’s Park, and Hesketh was especially impressive as he played some slick passes and helped to set the tempo for his side.

Hesketh has made just four senior appearances for Southampton so far and the 21-year-old faces a battle to get into the senior setup under Mauricio Pellegrino.
So far Hesketh, a product of Southampton’s academy, has made just four senior appearances for Southampton, and it seems likely that he could head out on loan next season in order to gain further experience.

Southampton are currently in 18th place in the Premier League, with Pellegrino’s side aware that their performance levels must start to improve if they are to avoid relegation to the Championship.
