Southampton have loaned out Jake Hesketh to Burton Albion.

Jake Hesketh has told the Daily Echo that he doesn’t want to return to Southampton in the January transfer window.

Southampton have loaned out Hesketh to Burton Albion, where he has played a key role so far this season.

And the midfielder has suggested that a return to St. Mary’s just doesn’t appeal to him right now.

He said: “I’m happy, I want to stay, I’m playing football and I’m enjoying myself.

“That’s down to the club here, the management, to want me to stay. That’s what I want to do.”

Southampton’s plans with Hesketh are not yet known, but Burton would surely be open to extending his loan.

The 22-year-old has made 16 appearances for Nigel Clough’s side so far this term, and looks to be vital to their squad.

At Southampton Hesketh’s first-team chances may be limited, as Mark Hughes has other options ahead of him.

Southampton may not have performed well in the Premier League this term, but Hughes has more experienced players than Hesketh to call upon.

Hesketh’s Burton side are currently in 13th place in the League One table.
