Queens Park Rangers look set to secure a mid-table finish in the Championship, but things could have arguably been worse had it not been for one player.
QPR’s Alex Smithies saves the penalty from Aston Villa’s Jonathan Kodjia
Jake Bidwell has suggested that a price could not be put on the importance of QPR goalkeeper Alex Smithies as the Hoops prepare to brace themselves for potential offers for the stopper this summer, Get West London reports.
Ian Holloway’s men look to have enough points on the board to go into the final eight games of the campaign just a couple of wins away from virtually guaranteeing another season in the second tier.
However, their position would arguably be a lot more precarious if it was not for the form of Smithies, who has enjoyed a brilliant season at Loftus Road.
Get West London suggests that QPR can expect offers for the 27-year-old in the summer, but Bidwell has insisted that no amount of money could make a deal seem worthwhile to the Hoops.
“It’s hard to put a price on it. With the amount of penalty saves and points he’s won us this season,” he said, as reported by Get West London.

“You can’t put a price on it. He’s experienced now as well. It’s not just what he does on the field, it’s what he does off it.”
With QPR still rebuilding following their change of strategy in the transfer market over the last few years, it would undoubtedly be a major blow if they lost the stopper in the summer.
They would surely have to spend a significant amount of money finding a worthy replacement when Holloway will be wanting to use that money to address the other issues in the squad.
