Glasgow Rangers came out on top at Ibrox, with David Bates proving to be the Gers’ hero ahead of his summer departure.

Jak Alnwick needed just four words on Twitter to sum up Rangers’ win on Saturday that keeps the Gers right in the mix to finish second in the Scottish Premiership this season, while Martyn Waghorn congratulated the 24-year-old on the victory in reply.
It has been an incredible last week for the Gers. In the wake of their Old Firm thrashing, Graeme Murty left the club prematurely and it was confirmed that Steven Gerrard is set to take charge from the summer.

Thoughts may have turned to next season, but the Light Blues had to concentrate on matters on the pitch on Saturday with Kilmarnock looking to inflict a further dent in Rangers’ hopes of finishing second in the top flight. With Aberdeen and Hibernian ultimately playing out a goalless draw, the door was open.
However, it looked for a long time like the Gers were not going to seize their chance. They needed a late header from David Bates – which proved to be their only attempt on target – to bag the three points.

In fact, Steve Clarke’s men had looked the more likely to score at one stage, but Alnwick was there to make a tremendous double save to keep the home side level.
Unsurprisingly therefore, Alnwick certainly did not get carried away on social media after the contest simply highlighting that they had bagged the win and kept a clean sheet which will certainly give the side a lift heading into their final two games of the campaign.
