Jak Alnwick has told the Daily Record that Carlos Pena has already become a joker in the Glasgow Rangers dressing room, even though he doesn’t speak fluent English yet.

Pena arrived at Rangers from Mexico over the summer, and he has taken no time to make an impression at Ibrox.

The central midfielder scored his first goal for the club in Rangers’ 3-1 win over Partick Thistle in midweek.

And Alnwick claims that it is not just on the pitch where Pena has made an impact, as he has also added a presence to the dressing room.

“Carlos was excellent,” Alnwick said. “It has been hard for him coming over here, it is a total culture shock as everything about life in Scotland is totally different for him.

“He has had to learn a new language and he is very funny. He doesn’t speak a lot of English but is always laughing and smiling around the changing room.

“It was nice to see him get a goal the other night as he put in a solid display on his first start.”

Pena could well keep his place in Rangers’ starting line-up for the Old-Firm derby, which takes place this weekend.

There was a great deal of excitement about Pena’s arrival at Ibrox, and there have already been glimpses of his quality.

If Pena does take to the field for Rangers against Celtic, it will be the midfielder’s toughest test yet since moving to Glasgow.

Rangers failed to win an Old-Firm derby last term, but they could close the gap to the Bhoys down to two points, if they are victorious on Saturday.
