Rangers face Maribor on Thursday night in the Europa League.
The Guardian have reported on their live transfer blog that (Thursday, 13:36) that Rangers goalkeeper Jak Alnwick was not on the Gers bus, amid reported interest from English Championship side Bristol City.
The Daily Express claimed on Wednesday that Lee Johnson’s Bristol City wanted to sign the 25-year-old stopper on loan, with Alnwick making only 11 appearances at Rangers since joining the club in January 2017.
The signing of Allan McGregor from Hull City has seen both Alwnick and Wes Foderingham fail in their attempts to nab the number on shirt under Steven Gerrard, with veteran McGregor starring for the Gers since his move to Ibrox.
However, Alnwick was expected to be on the coach to Ibrox ahead of Thursday night’s clash against Maribor in the third round of Europa League qualifying, after featuring on the bench for Gerrard’s first five games in charge.
But his no-show suggests that he could be on the move before Thursday’s 5pm deadline for English clubs to sign players, and that may see Bristol City lure the former Port Vale stopper to Ashton Gate.
A former England youth international, Alwnick would find competition aplenty with the Robins too, who boast Frank Fielding and new signing Niki Maenpaa between the sticks.
