Glasgow Rangers goalkeeper Jak Alnwick has been linked with a move away from Ibrox in the summer transfer window, amid speculation that Allan McGregor could be joining the Gers.
Alnwick has been on the books of Rangers since January 2017 when he joined from Port Vale on a three-and-a-half-year contract, as announced on the Gers’ official website.
According to The Daily Record, the Gers had to pay Port Vale a transfer fee of £250,000 in order to secure the services of the former Newcastle United goalkeeper.
The Glasgow Evening Times has claimed that Allan McGregor is close to joining the Gers on a free transfer in the summer of 2018 after his current contract with Hull City runs out at the end of the season.
The signing of the 36-year-old goalkeeper could make things tricky for Alnwick at Rangers next season, with The Express claiming that 24-year-old former England Under-18 international is set to leave the Gers this summer.
Alnwick, though, is not thinking too far ahead, and told The Glasgow Evening Times: “I have had no thoughts [about next season], it is just about this season and playing and giving my best.
“Whatever happens happens but there have been no talks or anything like that yet. It is just speculation.”
“There are no guarantees in football,” added Alnwick. “We don’t know who is going to be here next year, who is coming in and we just have to perform until the end of the season to give our fans something to shout about.”
Rangers exit?
Alnwick has made only a handful of appearances for Rangers since his move from Port Vale, and one would not blame him if he does decide to leave the Gers in the summer transfer window.
The former Newcastle goalkeeper is a good player, and if he is not getting enough playing time at Ibrox, then the 24-year-old has to make a decision on his future.
