The Everton centre-back has been out of the side recently.
Sam Allardyce has always built his sides on defensive resilience and, although he faces a considerable task, he is starting to work his magic at Everton, as evidenced by his side’s 1-1 draw away to Liverpool yesterday.
Phil Jagielka was named amongst the substitutes for the game at Anfield but the experienced defender entered the fray as a late substitute to help Everton hold on for a creditable draw.
Like many of his Everton team-mates, Jagielka has endured some miserable moments at times this season, with the 35-year-old having made some costly mistakes.
However, although he is certainly nearing the end of his career, the former England international could still have an important part to play for Everton under Allardyce.
Jagielka is vastly experienced having amassed over 300 Premier League appearances and he remains excellent aerially, while he is also composed in possession.
Ashley Williams and Mason Holgate were the chosen centre-backs for Everton against Liverpool but, with rotation sure to take place during a hectic schedule over the next few weeks, Jagielka will certainly be called upon at some point.
It is difficult to predict Jagielka getting back to his best but Allardyce can still make good use of the defender as Everton look to continue to build momentum.
Allardyce is fully aware of the quality that Jagielka possesses and will be aiming to restore the centre-back’s confidence in order for him to start performing consistently again.
Jagielka still has a lot to offer Everton and if Allardyce places his faith in him then the Toffees could become more effective at the back.
