Liverpool defender has caught the eye of potential international opponent.
Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk has been praised by Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
Van Dijk won the PFA Player of the Year Award from his fellow Premier League stars after an outstanding campaign for Liverpool.
The respect he has earned extends outside England.
Sancho is quoted by Sky Sports: “I’ve been watching a lot of Premier League games and I’ve seen him. He’s a great defender.
“He shows his ability on the pitch and that’s why he’s probably one of the best defenders in the world right now.”
Sancho will likely go up against Van Dijk in the summer when England take on Holland in the UEFA Nations League.
Van Dijk has an even tougher test first, when Liverpool face Barcelona this week.
The Champions League semi-finals pits Van Dijk up against Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
Fortunately Liverpool have a fearsome attack of their own, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah more than capable of breaching Barcelona’s backline.
