Jacob Murphy moved from Norwich City to Newcastle United for £12 million during this window.

Jacob Murphy has explained that his twin brother Josh was fully supportive of his decision to make the move from Norwich to Newcastle this summer, the Shields Gazette reports.

Murphy became the Magpies’ third signing of the window, joining the Premier League newbies for £12 million, according to the Shields Gazette, having spent the previous 11 years on the books of the Canaries alongside his brother.

But with the pair both boyhood Newcastle fans, as reported by the Shields Gazette, Jacob explained that Josh was well aware of what making the move would mean to him, and helped steer him towards St James’ Park.

“We speak about everything, and we spoke about my move here,” he said, as reported by the Shields Gazette.

“He said it was something I had to do – and I couldn’t agree more.

“It was hard to leave Norwich in one sense.

“But these opportunities don’t come around too often, because you don’t know when the next one is going to come round the corner.”

Newcastle fans have had to put up with a number of players in recent years who appear to be reluctant to give everything they can for the club – but Murphy’s allegiances suggest that he will not fall into that category.

Though he will have been too young to watch Kevin Keegan’s scintillating side nearly win the Premier League title, he would have grown up at a time when Sir Bobby Robson was leading the Magpies into the Champions League – so he will know full well that the expectations for Rafa Benitez’s men will be high, even if they are not as high as they once were.

But having shone in the Championship last season, it certainly appears that he has the quality to leave the fans delighted with the club’s decision to spend an eight-figure fee on him.
