Jackson Koivun has no plans to get too carried away following his victory at the 3M Open as he set his sights on making it into the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Koivun showed exactly why he is widely considered perhaps the brightest prospect on the PGA Tour as he won the 3M Open on Sunday.

The 21-year-old set the scoring record at TPC Twin Cities as he finished 25 under par.
Meanwhile, it said a lot that it was Scottie Scheffler who finished second to the youngster in Minnesota. Scheffler was never able to get just about close enough on Sunday to put some serious pressure on Koivun.

The win came on Koivun’s third start as a professional on the PGA Tour. But it also has significant implications for his future, with a two-year exemption secured.
It moves Koivun to 70th in the FedEx Cup standings. Of course, it is the top 70 who make it into the playoffs next month.
And speaking after his victory, Koivun suggested that he is planning to do all he can to make sure that he is walking the fairways in Memphis.
“Yeah, I’m going to try to cherish this tonight and then mental reset heading over to the Rocket Classic tomorrow and playing the Wyndham Championship. There’s still work to do to hopefully make that FedExCup,” he said.

There is a quiet confidence to Koivun that is impossible not to be impressed by. It was only on the 72nd hole on Sunday that he showed any sign of nerves.
By that time, the tournament was all but won. Koivun still went on to make the par that ensured that he finished three shots ahead of the world number one.
So perhaps it is no surprise that Koivun picked out his mental game as his strongest attribute.
“My best trait? I would say my mentality. I feel like I’ve gotten a lot better over the past couple years of being able to beat guys with my mentality,” he said.
“Sometimes I watch guys hit on the range and I don’t feel like I’m the most talented out there, but if I can go out there and believe and use my brain to my advantage, then that’s definitely kind of like a superpower.”
