Rangers have secured the services of Allan McGregor, who will move to the Ibrox club on a free transfer following his departure from Hull City.

McGregor will leave Hull in the Championship in England this summer, and the 36-year-old goalkeeper will return to Rangers for his second spell at Ibrox.

The Scotland international started his professional club football career at the Gers, and was on the books of the Glasgow giants from 1998 until 2012.

McGregor is a very good goalkeeper, and 25-year-old Hull City midfielder Jackson Irvine – who was on the books of Rangers’ Old Firm rivals Celtic from 2012 until 2015 – believes that his departing teammate will be a good signing for the Gers.

Irvine told The Daily Record: “Greegsy was so important for Hull, he was outstanding. We’re gutted to lose him because he was such a big player for us.

“I reckon he made one mistake the whole season, which, in a 46-game campaign, is incredible. When strikers see him they know they are going to have a tough day.

“Rangers need Rangers people and that’s what Greegsy is. He’ll exude that in the dressing-room and it will rub off on everyone.”

Meanwhile, former Celtic central defender David Moyes believes that appointing ex-Liverpool midfielder Gary McAllister as the Rangers assistant manager is a good decision.

Moyes told The Sunday Post: “The fact Gary McAllister is the assistant manager at Rangers is a very smart move.

“There is clearly trust and understanding between the two, and Gary also knows Rangers very well.”

Good signing for Rangers?

McGregor may be 36 years of age, but the Scotland international goalkeeper remains a good player who would be a good signing for Rangers.

Wes Foderingham is the first-choice goalkeeper at Rangers, but he will face stiff competition from McGregor next season.

The former Besiktas star is a very imposing figure, and signing him on a free transfer is a very smart decision from Rangers.
