Arsenal Under-18 head coach Jack Wilshere has reportedly told Gunners first-team manager Mikel Arteta to use Reuell Walters this season.

According to Football Transfers, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is considering playing academy prospect Reuell Walters in his side this campaign.

Jurrien Timber, who joined the Gunners in the summer transfer window, will be on the sidelines for the long term due to a serious knee injury.

Arteta is calling up Walters to replace Timber in his Arsenal first team.

Football Transfers have reported that former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, who now works in the Under-18 set-up, has told Arteta that “Walters should be given the chance to impress and is ready for the step up”.

The report has added that some at Arsenal believe that the 18-year-old right-back could become as good as Wiliam Saliba.

Saliba is one of the best young defenders in the Premier League and was superb for Arsenal last season.

Exciting times for Reuell Walters at Arsenal

In our opinion, Arsenal right-back Reuell Walters should be excited at the prospect of playing for the senior side this season.

Now, of course, Walters is unlikely to go straight into the first team, but he could get chances for Arsenal.

Ben White played as a right-back for Arsenal last season despite being a central defender by trade.

And Arteta could initially opt to play White at right-back again.

However, if Walters impresses in training and then does well in competitive matches when he is asked to play, then he could become an important player in the squad.

Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League title this season and will also look to make an impact in the UEFA Champions League.

The Gunners are going places under Arteta, who has shown that he is not afraid to give chances to young and talented players.
