Speaking to Stadium Astro Jack Wilshere has been speaking about players who are similar to him in the modern game, and he’s singled out Manchester City’s Phil Foden.

There are certainly similarities between Foden and Wilshere, they both burst onto the scene as teenagers and they’re both incredibly technical English left-footed midfielders.

Wilshere himself says that Foden is quite similar to himself, but one big difference that he has noted is the fact that Foden possesses more speed.

What’s been said?

Wilshere spoke about the similarities between himself and Foden.

“It’s tough to answer that. The obvious one that a lot of people say to me is Phil Foden, but he is different in that he’s a little quicker than me. He’s not as aggressive as I was but he is quicker so he doesn’t have to get as close to players,” Wilshere said.

Better

Wilshere and Foden are two mercurial talents, but even though Foden is only 22, we have to say that he’s already better than Wilshere ever was.

He’s scored almost three times as many Premier League goals as Wilshere has, he’s won more trophies and in a season and a half’s time he should have played more top-flight games than Wilshere.

Of course, injuries have played their part, but it’s a testament to Foden’s ability that it can already be argued that he’s achieved more in this sport than Wilshere.
